Late Call for Abstracts (Poster Presentations)
Paper Abstract Submission Deadline: 17 October 2025 (23:00 BST)
The abstracts will not be published in the indexed/refereed Engineering Proceedings collection, as they will not undergo the full peer-review process. However, authors are welcome to submit the extended results from the poster abstract to the IOP Sustainability Science and Technology journal, guest-edited by the conference programme committee.

Professor Melissa Gregg
Sustainability Strategy Advisor, Meta Reality Labs
Professor of Digital Futures, University of Bristol
Melissa Gregg is an author, ethnographer and sustainability consultant focused on design and engineering initiatives to address climate change. Her research provides guidance on carbon emissions reduction, circular economy, nature-based thinking and Green UX. She is an advisor on sustainability strategy at Meta Reality Labs Research and Professor of Digital Futures at the University of Bristol. She is also active in land and bird conservation in her home state of lutruwita/Tasmania.

Professor Matt Boyle
Director of Electrification, NMIS; Chair, North East Automotive Alliance; Visiting Professor, Newcastle University, Professor of Practice, Strathclyde University
Professor Matt Boyle is an accomplished engineering leader and entrepreneur in the field of power electronics, machines and drives, which is critical to the widespread programme of electrification needed to meet net zero targets. He led the growth of a pioneering business in automotive electrification in the UK, Sevcon, until its acquisition by BorgWarner in 2017. Subsequently, he established and led the ‘Driving the Electric Revolution Challenge’ for UK Research and Innovation and continues to work with high-growth electrification businesses. In 2018 Matt was awarded an OBE for his contribution to engineering and skills.


Professor of Physical Chemistry, University of Leicester
Andrew Abbott
Professor Andrew Abbott, FRSC, interests are firmly based around green chemistry, with a particular emphasis on material processing. Active in developing novel solvent systems with industrial applications such as metal deposition and dissolution, Professor Abbott also collaborates strongly with industry.
Professor Abbott is currently a partner in the Faraday Institution project ReLiB recycling lithium ion batteries where his research and work has been instrumental in a new process for delaminating battery materials with Birmingham University. This is currently being scaled up for use at battery manufacturing plants around the UK.

Professor of Chemical Engineering, University College London (UCL)
Panagiota Angeli
Prof Panagiota Angeli, FIChemE, is a Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at UCL, Deputy Head ED&I, and leads the ThAMeS Multiphase group. She obtained a Diploma in Chemical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece, and a PhD on Multiphase Flows at Imperial College London, UK. Prof Angeli’s work has been supported by substantial UK Research Council and European Union grants and by industry. She has been awarded a RAEng/Leverhulme Trust Fellowship, and has participated and chaired UK EPSRC and international (Norway, Sweden, Ireland, Belgium) research funding review panels. She co-chairs the Multiphase Flows Special Interest Group of the EPSRC funded UK Fluids Network and has published over 250 journal papers.

Jayakrishnan Chandrappan
Dr Jayakrishnan Chandrappan is a recognised expert in semiconductor material engineering and has held leadership and technology roles at organizations including Global Foundries Inc. (US), the Institute of Microelectronics (IME) at A*STAR Singapore, and the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology in India.
A co-founder of two startups, he has been awarded Europe’s prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship and the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Emerging Technology Showcase Award.
He serves as an external advisory board member for the University of Bristol and the University of Leeds, UK and is a Board of Studies member at Cochin University of Science & Technology (CUSAT) in India.

Kiran Crawford
Kiran Crawford is a senior sustainability engineer at JLR, working to embed sustainability across Range Rover, Defender, Discovery and Jaguar vehicles. His focus is on electrical & electronic components within JLR vehicles. Having obtained a MEng in Engineering (Electronics) from Durham University, and with a passion for sustainability, he now works to push for advancements in sustainability of automotive electronics.
With JLR's ambition to become carbon net zero by 2039, this requires decarbonisation of all the materials and components across our value chain, therefore Kiran works on increasing the understanding the sustainability impacts of electronics, developing decarbonisation pathways and delivering sustainability improvements into JLR products.

Senior Policy Researcher Global Chip Dynamics, interface
Julia Hess
Julia Hess is Senior Policy Researcher for "Global Chip Dynamics". Her focus is on the strategic relevance of semiconductors for Europe and the analysis of the global, interdependent value chain - factoring in both its high ecological footprint and dynamic geopolitical realities. Recently, Julia presented her work at the New York Climate Week and to the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy in the European Parliament.
Julia has been working at interface since 2019, initially conducting research at the intersection of AI and foreign policy with a focus on AI governance. In 2021, she was a fellow at the Gesellschaft für Informatik's AI Camp.
She studied media culture and sociology at the University of Cologne and completed her master's degree in social and business communication at the Berlin University of the Arts.

President, European Institute of Printed Circuits; Strategist, JIVA Materials
Alun Morgan
Alun is a materials scientist who started his career at the Institute of Physics’ Fulmer Research Institute. After serving as Technical Manager of a leading UK PCB manufacturer he joined the PCB materials industry with the Isola Group and in a 40-year international career has had operational/engineering responsibility for many PCB materials manufacturing sites in Europe, USA and Asia along with product and business roles.
Alun is the President of the European Institute of Printed Circuits (EIPC), the UK PCB Materials expert serving on IEC TC91 WG4 Industrial Standards Committee and a Member of Underwriters Laboratories Standards Technical Committee. He is Tech Ambassador for Ventec International Group, a global PCB materials science company and Product Strategist for Jiva Materials, inventor of the world’s first fully recyclable PCB.

Research Fab Microelectronics Germany (FMD)
Manuel Thesen
Dr. Manuel Thesen studied Technical Chemistry with a focus on Polymer Chemistry at the Technical University of Nuremberg. He worked for 3 years as a research associate at the Fraunhofer IAP in Potsdam in the 'Polymers and Electronics' department on semiconducting polymers in OFETs, OLEDs and OPVs, followed by a PhD in Colloid and Polymer Chemistry of the University of Potsdam in collaboration with Fraunhofer IAP on the topic of semiconducting terpolymers in OLEDs. He worked for 11 years as a division manager micro resist technology GmbH. Since 2022, he has been working for the Research Fab Microelectronics Germany (FMD) and is primarily responsible for the project 'Green ICT @ FMD'.
