WHAT WE OFFER
We offer a collaborative engagement with REACT focused on advancing sustainable and high-performance electronic materials and systems.
REACT will foster collaboration among universities, industry and the public sector to drive this change. With innovative design and multidisciplinary approaches, we can deliver solutions that align with the goals of sustainability and net-zero manufacturing, but without ignoring economic progress.
REACT offers research and leadership in:
PCB prototyping – biodegradable materials
Development and prototyping of printed circuit boards using biodegradable and environmentally responsible materials, enabling reduced environmental impact without compromising performance.
Reliability Analysis
Assessment of material and system reliability under operational and stress conditions, ensuring performance stability and longevity. Characterisation and test of materials for reliability and measuring RF properties and performance
Intergration at the system level
-
Bumping (by additive manufacturing) of Ag and Au.
-
Die thinning. Assembly; D2W, reflow soldering, thermocompression.
-
Design and integration with glass/organic/Si interposers.
-
Verification (DfT) and Reliability testing for verification under harsh environments
Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
Comprehensive LCA studies to evaluate environmental impact across the product lifecycle. This includes detailed analysis of component selection, material composition, and end-of-life considerations.
Material Characterisation & RF Performance Testing
Advanced characterisation of materials to evaluate:
· Mechanical and functional reliability
· Radio frequency (RF) properties and performance
Technical Documentation & Knowledge Sharing
We can develop concise technical papers that bridge the gap between academic research and industry application. These documents would:
-
Highlight functional characteristics of materials and processes.
-
Provide clear performance data and benchmarks.
-
Serve as marketing-oriented technical specifications for stakeholders and partners
Intergration at the system level
Focus on application-oriented research and development of small-scale prototypes and small volume production. SMD, CSP, BGA bare die assembly, Flip Chip technologies; soldering, adhesive joining; Die attach; soldering, adhesive joining, thermocompression bonding, sintering, Wire and ribbon bonding (ball / wedge, wedge / wedge, heavy wire and ribbon), Bond testing, Conformal electronics - Additive assemblies; organic, ceramic, metal substrates; wearable, medical, sensor, flex
Eco Design
Unique capability of environmental performance and reliability checks, we investigate the minimisation of environmental impact
with regard to reliability aspects and also eco-design. Eco-design of products and assistance with the future and current legal regulations. Lifetime orientated design, recycling and condition monitoring of electronic systems. Circular design support
PCB prototyping – low impact, flexible and biodegradable materials
Development and prototyping of printed circuit boards using biodegradable and environmentally responsible materials, enabling reduced environmental impact without compromising performance.
Wafer level packaging
Bumping (by additive manufacturing) of Ag and Au. Die thinning. Assembly; D2W, reflow soldering, thermocompression. Design and integration with glass/organic/Si interposers. Verification (DfT) and Reliability testing for verification under harsh environments
Collaborative R&D Projects
We welcome opportunities to engage in joint research and development initiatives, leveraging combined expertise to:
-
Develop next-generation sustainable electronic materials
-
Explore innovative manufacturing processes
-
Accelerate technology readiness and commercialisation
Get involved – join us in shaping REACT’s future
Your organisation can play a part in advancing sustainable electronics. We invite manufacturers, supply chain businesses, policymakers and public bodies to partner with us.
We recognise that agility of response is critical when developing novel technologies in a competitive environment. We therefore aim to provide facilities, expertise and outcomes aligned to your existing product development schedule.
We also understand the commercially sensitive nature of innovative technologies and applications and NDAs can be arranged where necessary to assure confidentiality.
Existing partners range from small start-ups and spin-outs looking to access latest generation equipment and expertise to support creation, consolidation or expansion, to larger organisations seeking to partner with a respected academic institution to exploit commercial opportunities.
By supporting REACT through collaboration, shared research initiatives, or investment, you will be contributing to the innovations that reduce e-waste, emissions, and dependence on scarce materials.
Get in touch via react@glasgow.ac.uk, and someone from the REACT team will be in touch.
