WHAT WE OFFER
The electronics industry faces big challenges, including high levels of e-waste, supply chain emissions, and an over-reliance on critical raw materials. To create a sustainable future, we need to develop responsible technologies that prioritise the environment throughout a product’s lifecycle.
REACT will foster collaboration among universities, industry and the public sector to drive this change. With innovative design and multidisciplinary approaches, we can deliver solutions that align with the goals of sustainability and net-zero manufacturing, but without ignoring economic progress.
REACT offers research and leadership in:
Sustainable electronics design and materials
Development of innovative sustainable methods in semiconductors, materials, and chemistry.
Ecodesign expertise
Providing solutions for hazard-free product design, resource efficiency, and sustainable lifecycles.
Optimised semiconductor manufacturing
Improving efficiency using advanced design strategies and employing technologies such as digital twins.
Lifecycle assessments (LCA)
Evaluating the environmental impact of a product from raw material extraction to disposal, helping to identify areas for improvement in energy use, emissions, and resource efficiency
Recycling innovation
Developing recycling processes and extracting material and e-waste at pilot plant scale and understanding the full lifecycle environmental impact of electronics
Training
Professional training and development, online learning, and skills mappinglearning, and skills mapping
Policy and legislation insight
Understanding and helping to shape legislation and policies that support sustainable and economically viable electronics
Diversity and workforce leadership
Helping to grow a skilled, socially responsible workforce for sustainable industries.
Industry connection and outreach
Bridging the gaps between research, industry, policymakers, and end-users
Economic benefits of sustainability
Demonstrating how sustainable design boosts businessesand customer value.
Get involved – join us in shaping REACT’s future
Your organisation can play a part in advancing sustainable electronics. We invite manufacturers, supply chain businesses, policymakers and public bodies to partner with us.
We recognise that agility of response is critical when developing novel technologies in a competitive environment. We therefore aim to provide facilities, expertise and outcomes aligned to your existing product development schedule.

We also understand the commercially sensitive nature of innovative technologies and applications and NDAs can be arranged where necessary to assure confidentiality.
Existing partners range from small start-ups and spin-outs looking to access latest generation equipment and expertise to support creation, consolidation or expansion, to larger organisations seeking to partner with a respected academic institution to exploit commercial opportunities.
By supporting REACT through collaboration, shared research initiatives, or investment, you will be contributing to the innovations that reduce e-waste, emissions, and dependence on scarce materials.
